چکیده
Out of autoclave (OoA) processing techniques, such as liquid composite moulding techniques (LCM) and, particularly, the vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI) technique, are being used, with increasing success, in replacement prepreg/autoclave technologies to produce structural aircraft/aerospace polymer parts, due its better cost effectiveness and competitiveness. This work aims embed Fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors monitor VARI manufacturing carbon fibre reinforced (CFRP) composites evaluate associated phenomena: ambient curing post reactions resulting residual strains. The kinetics epoxy system alone was initially studied through isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) tests applying isoconversional Friedman method, further by strain monitoring during resorting FBG sensors. CFRP laminates were able detect a subtle increase started measure decreasing filled dry fabric layers. Subtle decrease revealed forming crosslink bonds. Compressive strains measured show that takes place. A comparison resultant made between specimens embedded on small-diameter optical fibres (SDOF) large-diameter (LDOF).

Fibre optic sensor for continuous health monitoring in CFRP composite materials
An intensity modulated sensor, based on the microbending concept, has been incorporated in laminates produced from a C/epoxy prepreg. Pencil lead break tests (Hsu-Neilsen sources) and tensile tests have been performed on this material. In this research study, fibre optic sensors will be proven to offer an alternative for the robust piezoelectric transducers used for Acoustic Emission (AE) monit...

Carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates are getting more widely used outside the aerospace industry. For large structures the selected process is often vacuum infusion, due to tool cost and heating/pressure limitations for large components. It has also been shown that such process can give sufficient mechanical properties. In the current EUROPE 103-014 project, supported by the Western...
